Spiritual Rites of Passages were performed for ages within cultural groups, what happened? Why did we stop? It is an event that can shape ones life and allow for compassion and understanding of oneself and others. One would expect the experience to be subtly different for each individual, however, the underlying message is: we are all one.
The loss of the role of the Goddess in religion could have played a part. Goddess worship entails mysticism and love. Magic is alive when we look up to the moon on a starry night or sit by a river and feel the healing energy as it cleans our spirit. Our society has alienated the Goddess from our lives, and perhaps with it, the spiritual rite of passage. The radio, TV, computer, iPhone could have played a role in diverting our intention and attention away from inner soul searching but we can bring it all back.

A Rite of Passage is more of a test that is part of a process that the Creator, God/dess or Source uses to bring believers into another stage of maturity before assigning them into another level of kingdom service. Time and again we see and experience within ourselves and great leaders who have gone through different stages of their life that prepared them for something greater they were called to do
The loss of the rites of passage might be considered a violent disruption of our maturation cycles. Early peoples living close to nature and the earth experienced our cyclical journeys akin to the cycles, rhythms and seasons of the earth and the heavens. In losing the connection with nature, we also lose our connection to our inner self. We become deaf and blind to the spirit of the plants, the animals, the water and wind spirits, and the Earth herself. Perhaps it can be said that we project our rage and pain outward and wage violence against her — polluting her waters and air, denuding her forestland, and turning once fertile lands into fallow ground and deserts. Does not our molding, sculpting, and armoring accomplish a similar inner landscape? It cannot be further denied that WE ARE ONE!
We cannot shrink away from our destiny. We must plant our feet in the ground, feel our divine sacred roots extending to the crystalline core of the Earth, lift our eyes to the blue skies above, feel the sunshine caressing our faces knowing that As above So below, – we have the power to overcome anything because we are unified and whole thus birthing the kingdom of heaven – so within, so without.
